AtKM Progress Update 01.
Well, since this is progress update number one, there's not a lot filled in up there. But this is mostly an introduction anyway, so that's okay... Right?
So, hi! My name is erin, also known as theoryoferin around the internet, and I'm making a video game! Bet you couldn't figure that one out by looking at this blog, could you? ;] I'm 27 and live in Central Florida, working fulltime at a lovely, lovely theme park. And that's plenty about me.
I fancy myself a writer, which is where the premise of this game came from. My brother happened to find a copy of RPG Maker 2003 for the PS2 and I started out on there. Things have changed a lot since then [I'd only managed to get the intro scene to work, anyway...], but the game has more or less stayed the same since then.
Fast forward to now, April 2013. I've burnt myself out a bit on novel writing, but still wanted a creative outlet. I remembered buying RMXP back in October of 2011, so I fired it up and got to working on All the King's Men. The basic summary of the game can be found in the post below this one and I think you'll be amused to see how backwards I'm working on this game -- especially as a so-called writer -- maps first, everything else comes secondary. It's weird, but it's working for me, so we'll go with it.
Right now, I've almost finished the Intro / Tutorial town [it's at about 90% completion; I want to add in a few more NPCs and basic tutorial aspects for non-RPG players] and have just finished mapping the first real town in the game, along with the field area in between and parts of a hidden side quest / subplot. Now, just to finish putting in all the NPCs and starting to work on the Database.
I also figure out how to event-code a fishing mini game all on my own last night that I'm incredibly proud of, so there's that.
Real point of this post? To commit to actually making this game and to maybe help some other new RMXP users out by showing some of my efforts and progress along the way. [:
